How to fail better.
We get told all the time that failure is part of success. But how many of us know how to actually employ that idea? How many of us are willing to even try it?
It sounds inspiring but also wildly out of reach, right?
I’m going to help you change that. I’m dedicating September to unpacking the idea of failure - what it means, why we’re afraid of it, and how to make it something that serves us rather than something that scares us.
Spending a whole month on this one concept is going to allow us to take our work deeper and spend more time on some of the finer points. If you follow along week over week and do the challenges I present to you, you’re going to get some results. Maybe subtle ones obvious only to you. Maybe huge ones that will have everyone in your life asking you what the hell you’re doing and where they can sign up.
Does the idea of a one-month deep dive on failure make you want to throw up a little? Great, that’s exactly how it feels to come up against your growth edge. Do you actually feel pretty comfortable with the idea of failure? Also great! Tune in anyways, you will still get a lot of value out of this content because chances are, there’s at least one area where you’re avoiding failure and it’s blocking you from creating something amazing.
Ready to get started? Excellent. Here’s challenge number one: by next week, do a little free write (or even just a free think) on the concept of failure. It can be tiny, like 90 seconds of pondering these questions in a word doc or on some scrap paper. What were you taught about failure as a kid? What do you think failure means? What happens when you fail at something in your life? What would you like to do that you haven't tried because you're afraid of failing?
Take a moment to observe what came up. Whether you're writing or just thinking these questions through, this exercise will teach you a lot about your current thinking and your social conditioning. And next week, I’ll be back with more info and challenge number two!
I'm super looking forward to this next month and in the meantime, feel free to hit me up on insta if there’s something specific you’re hoping I’ll cover this month, or if you find some interesting thoughts in your free write, or anything else! And if you want to keep up with others who are also doing this challenge, come comment on my Friday Q&A posts to share your fail-wins, ask questions, and more!
If you can already tell from this one free write that it’s time for some 1:1 support, I’d be delighted to help you out with that. I’m currently accepting clients and my packages are totally virtual so as to better serve my global audience (and yes, I’ve worked with people who are not native English speakers with great success).
